OK.
- So, I guess the weeks-long writer's strike is over... and let me just say - it's about time. But straight to the important stuff: here is your guide to find out when your favorite shows will return. It's kinda sad to see how many new shows and old favorites have been tagged "TBD."
Speaking of... what happened to Bionic Woman? I'll admit, I didn't watch the show, but I thought it was supposed to be awesome or whatever. I guess not? Any Bionic Woman viewers out there? What are your thoughts about that show? Was it any good? - Speaking of TV... how about that Sarah Conner (Terminator) show? Is that one any good? I mean, the premise behind the show is kinda solid, but you can never underestimate the power of network suits to fuck up a good story.
- Non Star Trek fans can just skip this part...
OK, so one of the local channels plays two Star Trek (Original Series... you know, with Kirk and Spock) reruns every Sunday. Now, I've seen every episode about a billion times, but hey, now that football season's over, I've got a little more spare time. Anyway, I've noticed that these "new" reruns... the special effects have been entirely redone. Like, to the point where it's almost unrecognizable.
Example... the Entreprise "whooshing" by during the theme? Used to be just a blur. Now it's been digitally redone, where you can see details on the ship as it goes by. Another example - the planets in these redone episodes... they actually look like planets (rather than just really large marbles). You can see geographic features. Sometimes, they have rings. Either way, the simple shots of the Enterprise orbiting planets have been totally beefed up, and it's pretty cool looking.
And I haven't even started talking about the fight effects. It used to be, whenever the Enterprise fired phasers, they'd only show the ship from one angle, and the phaser shots always looked the same. And photon torpedos? They just looked like bright lights coming out from the bottom. Now, yesterday, I watched the "Ultimate Computer" episode (the one with Dr. Daystrom and M5). In the original episode, there was some implied dogfighting, but you never saw any ships chase any other ones. But last night? We actually got to see the Enterprise chase down the Excalibur (a view from behind, even) and shoot her with phasers. Different angles. Cleaner effects. It was almost like watching a brand new episode. I just may have to get all of these old episodes on DVD, just to see the redone special effects.
And if you're not a Star Trek fan, and you read all that anyway? Yeah, I'm sure you're really wondering about me right now... - I've gotta talk about something besides TV... how about that fact that my Sun Devils beat the hated Wildcats for their first season sweep of Arizona since the mid-90s. Looking better, Devils, but you'll need a few more quality wins if you want to get into the big dance.
Entries like that make me feel like... this.
Happy Monday!
