So, maybe that's not the best paraphrasing of the famous line from "Field of Dreams"...
But hey, it's nice to see that Bank of America is helping cement its image as the most unfriendly bank in the world (OK, maybe it doesn't have that image yet, but it should. Dirty fuckers). They will do anything and say anything to make your life more difficult, and charge you for anything and everything under the sun. They have so many damned policies in place that do nothing to help the consumer. Like, placing a 24 hour hold on cash deposits. I'm still fucking pissed about that. Did I tell you that story?
So, I was gonna take a trip to Vegas. I had a bunch of cash on me, thinking that I'd need it for the trip (this was on a Saturday), but then I thought "Nah, why carry all this cash unnecessarily? I might lose it or something." So I went to the bank, talked to a teller, and deposited my cash.
So I get to Vegas, go the ATM, and it says those funds aren't available. I call BofA, and they say that there's been a hold placed on my deposit. My
cash deposit. And they can't release it early, now that it's been deposited. So, sorry that you're hungry, have no food, no money, and no place to stay while you're off on vacation, but too fucking bad. So if you wonder why I always harp about the "hold on cash deposits," this is why. BofA tried to leave me high and dry, and for what? Protecting themselves from fraudulent
cash deposits? Fucking assholes.
Oh yeah! And there's this one that happened last week... I went to go buy something with my (debit/credit) card, and it was declined. I had just put a deposit in a few days before, so I knew I had money in there. So I go to the bank, to make sure that I did indeed make the deposit. I did. It was in there. So, I'm a little angry at this point (I was on my lunch break, again with no cash and hungry), and I ask why I can't use my card or get cash out of the ATM. He tells me that my card had be reported as stolen. Whaaaa? I told him that it wasn't stolen, and that I had never reported it as such. OK, dude, so why haven't I been sent a new card? Why didn't anyone tell me? I was really angry at this point, and the teller hit some buttons, and suddenly, my card was working again. Really? I thought the card was trash, and that I'd have to wait for another one, just like
what always happens when you "lose your card". Honestly, I think the teller was flat-out lying to me, and I still have no idea why my card just stopped working there. He had to be lying. I mean, can they really re-issue "lost" cards like that? Well, maybe they can, but I've never heard of it. I think the teller just lied right to my face. Nice customer service, assholes.
But enough about that.
BofA is looking to screw many, many more of its customers. Like, applying rate increases for seemingly arbitrary reasons. Apparently, this is part of a periodic review, where they decide just how much blood they can get from each turnip. I mean, their credit card rates go up sharply, and the customers are given a choice of opting out of their card (by paying off their balance at the old rate, but they won't be able to use the card anymore) or keeping the card and losing either an arm or leg. Nice.
And what the fuck is this
trailing interest bullshit? So, wha, you pay off your balance in full, and you still get charged for interest? Oh, because you're getting charged interest for every day that you hold a balance after the accounting period ends. So, if you wait to pay your bills (which I think most people do - make all their bill payments around the same time), then you'll be charged more than if you paid your balance on the day it was due. What the fuck is up with that?
That's Bank of America for you. Screw the customer. It's not just a motto - it's policy.
