If, for no other reason than to ask a question that you're rarely asked, I'm asking... who wants to share their wisdom teeth stories?
Me? I had all four pulled at the same time. Well, not at the exact same time... I had all four pulled during the same visit. Three of 'em came out easily; just one quick tug, and they were gone. But the last one? Holy shit. The dentist literally had a foot up on the chair so he could brace himself and get that little extra pull, and it still wasn't coming out. It didn't hurt (thank you, novacaine... but really, can't I get the gas just once?), but I could totally feel that thing stuck in there. Well, after much loosening, and about a half an hour, it finally came out. I was nice and bloody by then. But they shoved about eight things of gauze in my mouth, and I was good to go.
So, your turn. Let's hear your wisdom teeth stories. Hey, I think I'll declare today to be Wisdom Teeth Wednesday!
OK, that was lame.
Just give me your damned stories, K?

mine are still in, but the doc recommends that i get them removed. something about not having room in my mouth. can you believe that? my mouth is too small. my s.i.l. had an awful time, though, so i'm scared to have it done. she was so sick i had to stay home from school with her.

I had three of my four wisdom teeth pulled, all at the same time, by a maxillofacial surgeon. I was under some kind of anesthetic, so it seemed like the whole process was over pretty fast. My sister drove me home, and I enjoyed eating yogurt and cream corn for about a week or so.

Well I had my bottom 2 taken out about 12 years ago and ended up with lock jaw for about a week.
Couple of months later the Dr. that removed them died in a private plane crash.

The other 2 were removed a few years ago and I had Ice cream afterward, all went well.
Couple of months later this Dr. that removed them had a massive stroke and no longer does dental work.
Was it me??? no, but thats shit is just too fuckin weird.

I had five wisdom teeth, and I had them pulled all at once. They gave me enough novacaine to choke a horse and put me under a twilight sleep. The putting under part was the best. The novacaine, not so much, It took like a day to wear off, and my tongue felt like it was the size of a watermelon in my mouth. I also ended up in the hospital from dehydration because my dillhole oral surgeon perscribed too much codeine and I threw
everything up. Yeah, good times.

I had all four yanked at once. 2 were impacted. They gave me so much gas, I was completely out of it. I don't even remember the ride home or much of the following three days of Darvocet bliss. My mom had hers pulled when she was in her 20's. At age 60 they discovered a 5th tooth. Youch.

I too had my wisdom teeth removed by a maxillofacial surgeon. Except I had the bottom removed when I was 12 and the top removed when I was 17. I only memory I have of them is the f***ed up x-ray of them coming in horizontally.

All 4 taken out at the same time, I had to be knocked OUT, no way I could be awake for that
All were fairly simple except the bottom one that he had to crack to get out, I looked like a lopsided chipmunk LOL. The Percocets were fun

Amy the whackjob coming out of hiding. I had mine pulled (extracted) surgically years ago. The two bottom ones were impacted and the top two did not have enough room to come down.
If you get anaesthized (sp?), an hour before your fast begins, cut up and eat an entire fresh pineapple.
I know it sounds like some crazy old-wive's tale, but it works. I had virtually no swelling and very little pain. I was eating normal food by that evening.
Try it or not, what have you got to lose?

I had all 4 yanked out (2 at a time) when I was in Portugal in 1996 while I was on vacation after graduation. I didn't go under, I just had them yanked like you did. I barely felt a thing from that and the AMAZING anestesia (sp?) they gave me, my face didn't feel like a block of wood or anything but once that wore off, I was on some painkillers because it was too much. I thought I was the only one who had them yanked, good to know I'm not.

I was under when I had my two out.
BUT I broke the cardinal rule and smoked within 12 hours of my surgery. Bad idea. I ended up getting the worst dry sockets my surgeon had ever seen and a blood infection. I was sick in bed for almost a week, with a very high fever. I got a prescription for some kind of hard core penicillin, which I had a very bad reaction to. So bad, (this is the gross part! Sorry) that my side effects included sores like a certain kind of herpes. Lesson learned: No matter how addicted you are....DO NOT smoke or suck on ANYTHING when you get wisdom teeth out.

i'm always late getting to the party - i'm 23 and my wisdom teeth are just starting to come in. luckily, they're not impacted or sideways or anything. my dentist has suggested i have them removed once they come in, but if they're not causing problems i'm keeping those fuckers. i hate having teeth pulled. it doesn't hurt, but the *sound*.. ugh.

I will get my four impacted ones pulled next month, and you better believe they are knocking me out. I would freak the fuck out if I were awake... I am soooo grossed out now just thinking about it. Cringe.

Six wisdom teeth. Four were horizontal rather than vertical and buried varied places in my lower skull. Two were growing in the direct center of the roof of my mouth. All six taken out simultaneously via two hour surgery.
Afterward, I discovered why people take vicodin at parties.

All 4 removed while I was totally under by a oral surgeon. Two were very impacted and the surgery was supposed to be 1 hour and ended up being a little over 2 hours. I remember recovery was very hard. Lots of painkillers and my face was swollen up like a chipmunk. Ice bags were my friend. The stitches in the mouth were pretty gross too.

Woohoo!
I had all four impacted, all four out at once. They gave me the IV drip and gas, but because drugs never knock me out...I didn't go under. I was scared to not go under, but they assured me I'd be fine...and it was a blast. I remember asking him why he had ketchup on his shirt (my blood) and singing Christmas songs to himm (it was June).
So the actual pulling went well, but they never told me not to use a straw. My mom got me a milkshake right after, and I sucked my way into four, yes FOUR, dry sockets. Probably THE most painful experience of my life.
It lasted well over a month for me, because the kid who was supposed to fix my dry sockets didn't shove the gauze in right, so I had to go back three times. I don't even remember that month because I was on so. many. painkillers. Quote from dental surgeon: "Well, now you'll be able to handle childbirth, no sweat!"
IV drip and gas = good. Dry socket = bad.

1st one at 19. Got a stay-in-bed migraine from hell for over a week while it cut through but it was a good tooth.
2nd came in at 21 with no problems at all.
3rd came in sideways. Opened a hole in my gum which got infected and fucked up my mouth for a month. surgeon cut the gum to let it through and it ended up being a servicable tooth.
4th was full bony impaction that I ignored until I was 27 and my face swelled up on the left size to something resembling a cantaloupe. I got the demerol cocktail and they ripped that sucker out and I looked like I went 5 rounds with Tyson for a week or so.
Eventually I got them all taken out because they threw my bite off. I have really nice straight teeth and didn't like looking like I had an underbite.

I had all four pulled at once and threw up on some nice suit wearing man in the elevator afterwards. My poor mom had to deal with myself and my two brothers getting them all pulled at the same time. One of my brothers wanted to drive home afterwards and sat down in somebody elses car to do so. Much fun, lots of gas and an IV for the whole thing.

I had all four out at the same time and had to be completely knocked out. The anesthesia made me loopy and I woke up laughing hysterically and drooling. Apparently, I insisted that the doctor come in so I could tell him a joke that popped into my head, then I made another patient who also had some teeth out and was on the gurney next to me in recovery, cry when I started laughing and pointing at him because he looked like a walrus. He was a doctor, who started crying and told me to stop laughing at him. Then the recovery nurse sat me up and I threw up in my own lap. I don't actually remember much of this, but that is what the office staff told me when I went in for a follow up. I have never been so embarrassed.

I'm really not that mean.

Some great stories. Never had mine pulled. I had two other teeth pulled, which I thought was fun because I could feel but it didn't hurt.
The best wisdom teeth story? My mom was on jury duty for a surgeon who hit a nerve while pulling some girl's teeth, and her sense of taste was lost. I like to tell people who are going in for it about this one.

I had four wisdom teeth AND four regular teeth removed at the same session.
My wisdom teeth weren't up yet, so they had to go in and crush them and remove the pieces. I couldn't eat and could barely drink anything for 3 days since I couldn't open my mouth any wider than 1/2" or so due to swelling, and couldn't close my mouth all the way due to the pain and the gauze. No Vicodin for me, though. They gave me crappy Tylenol with codene (sp?) that didn't do anything but make me bitchier than I already was (being 15, in pain, and hungry). I looked like that old Hubba Bubba character, Rockjaw.

The only good thing about getting my wisdom teeth out were the drugs. But the drugs ran out after a week and I was still in pain for several weeks after that. :(
