What do you know this week?

OK people, it's time to unload all of the trivia that you know. Or, at least some of it. A smidgen.

Like you, I too sometimes find it difficult to think of something I know right off the top of my head. But there's always something, so don't give up on that whole "thinking" or "trying to remember" thing. Because eventually, it'll happen, and you'll come up with little gems like...

I know that the FedEx logo contains a negative space arrow that I can't help but look at (since I know that it's there). The "arrow" is between the E and x.

I know that blue whales are the largest creatures that inhabit the earth, and that whale sharks are the world's largest fish. And I know that Robert Wadlow is the tallest man in recorded history (he was 8'11"). And I know that he wore glasses.

I know that Eddie Van Halen played the guitar solo in Michael Jackson's "Beat it," and that it's Sting who wants his MTV in Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing."

I know that Ron Jeremy has a Masters in Special Education. No, seriously.

I know that there's a guy named Eddie Paskey who appeared on more episodes of (the original) "Star Trek" than many of the show's stars. More than either Sulu or Chekov, for certain. He always played "the background guy." You know, the random officer/security/hall passer by. He was like an extra extraordinaire. His (last) name on the show was Lesley, and he's actually pretty easy to spot if you're looking for him.

I know that the largest earthquake in North America happened on Good Friday (March 27), 1964 in AK, between Valdez and Anchorage. It was a magnitude 9.2 on the Richter Scale (adjusted), and lasted for over four minutes. Now, anybody who's been in an earthquake will tell you, it's kinda scary when you feel that first shake, because you're waiting to see if it's a "real" quake or a random shake. But in the back of your head, you're always bracing for a big one. Can you imagine shaking for over four minutes straight? Damn, that'd scare the shit out of anyone.

So, people... what do you know?
I don't know if it has been covered but a dime has 118 ridges on it side and a quarter has 119.

If you want to know more head on over to The Sneeze to read more about the FedEx logo and an interview with the creator! It's pretty interesting.

I know my dad is from the same town as Miles Davis. smile

You know I've been saving that all week. haha!
I now know that a Velociraptor was actually about the size of a turkey, and had feathers. Jurassic Park blew them up to make them look more menacing.

I know that Hippopotami are actually close relatives of whales instead of pigs, as was originally thought.

I know that there are 128 ounces in a gallon.

I know that it is better to prune roses in the sprig instead of in the fall. The rose hips that form at the end of the growing season actually contain vital nourishment for the plant through the winter. You will also get a lot more roses if you alternate years in which you cut flowers off of the plant.
Oops. I forgot to say which town... Alton, Illinois.
Joelle... how weird is this? It turns out that the previously mentioned Robert Wadlow (world's tallest man) was also called the Alton Giant because he was from... Alton, IL.
I know that the coach for the Phoenix Suns, Mike D'Antoni is from Mullens, West Virginia.

I know that Girl Scout cookies have different names depending on where you live. My favorite is the Tagalongs but others may know them as Peanut Butter Patties.

I know that my credit score is awesome. Well, I do! I just learned that this week. Hurray for me!
I know that if one set of identical twins marries another set of identical twins, and each married couple has children, that those children genetically would be full siblings. (And you thought soap operas were strange with "my brother is my father and my uncle". Now you have "my cousin is my sister!")

And damn, I don't mind earthquakes, but yea 4 minutes seems a bit scarily excessive!
I learned that Isaac Asimov coined the word robotics.

That's all I got this week.
No building in DC may be taller than 13 floors. This is so that no matter where in the city you are, you can see the monument to our first president, Washington.

Guinea pigs and rabbits can't sweat. And rabbits do not produce tears.

George Washington died the last hour of the last day of the last week of the last month of the last year of the 18th century.

Charlie Chaplin once won third prize in a Charlie Chaplin look alike contest.

The storage capacity of human brain exceeds 4 Terrabytes.

I knew about the FedEx logo, and I learned about it reading The Sneeze smile
I know that men speak about 2000 words a day and women speak about 7000. Do the men make up for the other 5000 by grunting and gesturing?

I know the average bottle of champagne has 58 million bubbles.

I know that the shampoo I bought today has trivia questions on the bottle. Good thing, because I forgot what I "knew" because I had to be at work by 6am all week. I know I am not a morning person.
I know that Dennis Rodman really isn't that bad of a neighbor. Seriously. He lived across the street from me during "The Dream Team" years.

I know that if I watch a movie and someone points out a "goof" I will watch for that every.single.time. (like your FedEx thing).
the only thing I know about FedEx is that all the packages end up in Memphis before moving on

Thomas Jane sometimes goes by the name Eddy Yablans.

Brian Setzer's ex-wife is married to Michael Madsen.

And I ROCK at playing Turning Japanese on GH Rocks the 80's!!
All I know about whale sharks, aside from being the largest fish, they're the gentlest among the sharks.
This week, I found these things out:

- drinking skim milk near its expiration date entails some risk.

- that stupid people are apparently everywhere, and they're the ones talking the loudest.

- that if you're seated in the back of a Mexican restaurant, you may never get served.

- that "bible students" who come to your door can be over 50.

But probably the most useful thing I know with come certainty is that you can't simply exchange Baking Soda for Baking Powder
Issac Asimov may have coined the word robotics, but he didn't invent the word robot. It was first coined by Josef Capek. His brother Karel made it famous in the play "Rossum's Universal Robots."
"Ron Jeremy has a Masters in Special Education"

Get out!
I have seen Robert Wadlow several times in the Ripley's Museums! I still cannot get over how tall he was. I remember always comparing my teeny fet to his giant ones.
I know that every 10 seconds, 45 people are born on earth and 16 die.
Mikey--are you reading Ron's biography? My husband just finished reading and told me the same factoid last week. It was among the trivia I forgot before Friday. I think I will pay attention and not send my kids to his class, just for the record.
I know that it's the moisture from sugar in cookies that makes them soft, so recipes with more sugar will yield softer cookies.

I know chocolate will seize up if you add water.

I know Jessica Alba will be breastfeeding her baby, thanks to Ryan Seacrest, even though I really wish I didn't know.
I know that if you put a piece of bread at the bottom of your cookie jar, your cookies will stay soft. The bread itself will harden, but the cookies will not. I do not know why.

I found out that if you are 4'10" or under, you may be considered a Little Person even if you have no forms of Dwarfism. (My mom is 4'8" and everyone kept asking us if she's a little person. She's just short).

I know that shark's gills do not move so they must always be swimming to pass water over them or they will drown.
The fastest animal isn't the cheetah. It's the peregrine falcon, whose dives have been recorded in excess of 400kph. Cheetahs are the fastest animal on land, but only for short sprints. Over long distances, the gazelle (whom can run at top speed for hours) has them beat.

Unix was named after an OS that came before it, Multix (I could be wrong on the name, it might be Minix or something else that starts with an M). One of the bosses wanted a number of features taken out ("too complex", they said), so the programmers called the resultant, less-powerful OS Unix because they had to "cut the nuts off of Multix". Eunich, Unix, geddit?

The strongest part of your body is the enamel on your teeth.
I know that Brazil has won the World Cup more than any other country.

I know that Istanbul was Constantinople, now it's Istanbul...haha, ok I won't sing the song. Funny how they don't bring up Byzantium in that song, though.

I know that Nero was the craziest mofo Roman Emperor, like, ever. He would tie people to steaks and attack their genitals...sorry, maybe you didn't want to know that.

I know that astronaut means "star sailor." awww. that's so cute!
I know how to design and build a house with my own little hands.

I know how to build wooden kayaks for my son & I.

I know how to make a 'killer' roasted garlic & thyme stuffed pork loin wrapped in pepper bacon and topped with an apricot pistachio(sp) glaze
I know who Ashlee Simpson's first kiss was. (We went to school together.)

I know that up to 30% of people are allergic to red food dye and have no idea.

I dont know much, huh?
I know that Mikey is going too long between posts. Again.
