If you don't know, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) recently introduced
an amendment to a Defense Appropriations Bill that would punish contractors if they restrict their employees from taking workplace sexual assault, battery, and discrimination cases to court. In other words, if employees are assaulted/discriminated against, then they have the right to sue the contractor.
Even more simply, if you're at work and you're raped, you can sue the company.
Well, the bill passed, 68-30.
Wait, 30 people voted against this? 30 people voted to protect companies when they assault or discriminate against their own workers?
Who are these people?
Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
John Barrasso (R-WY)
Christopher Samuel "Kit" Bond (R-MO)
Sam Brownback (R-KS)
Jim Bunning (R-KY)
Richard Burr (R-NC)
Saxby Chambliss (R-GA)
Tom Coburn (R-OK)
Thad Cochran (R-MS)
Bob Corker (R-TN)
John Cornyn (R-TX)
Mike Crapo (R-ID)
Jim DeMint (R-SC)
John Ensign (R-NV)
Mike Enzi (R-WY)
Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
Judd Gregg (R-NH)
Jim Inhofe (R-OK)
Johnny Isakson (R-GA)
Mike Johanns (R-NE)
John Kyl (R-AZ)
John McCain (R-AZ)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
James Risch (R-ID)
Pat Roberts (R-KS)
Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
Richard Shelby (R-AL)
John Thune (R-SD)
David Vitter (R-LA)
Roger Wicker (R-MS)
Notice any similarities between all these naysayers?
Now, Jeff Sessions has said this this amendment is a partisan attack on Halliburton, but Franken points out that this will be applied broadly, to all contractors. But, funny how Sessions mentioned Halliburton. Wonder why?
Perhaps it's because a Halliburton/KBR employee was gang-raped? And Halliburton/KBR was unable to cover it up successfully (though not for lack of trying. "
In an apparent attempt to cover up the incident, the company then put her in a shipping container for at least 24 hours without food, water, or a bed, and “warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she’d be out of a job.”)".
But yeah, any attempt at making defense contractors accountable? That's not "partisan." That's the moral thing to do.
So why did so many Republican senators vote against this bill? If you're one of their constituents, maybe you should ask them.

I can guess why Tom Coburn did...he was already covering up for his "house mate's" affair in Washington, DC....not too far a jump is it?
