"Only a master of evil, Mike."
So what if I like to paraphrase using Star Wars quotes?
- Speaking of Star Wars quotes... it really bugs me to no end when people mis-quote that Vader line from Empire Strikes Back when he reveals himself as Luke's father.
The mis-quote? "Luke, I am your father."
The real quote:
Vader: Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father...
Luke: He told me enough. He told me you killed him.
Vader: No. *I* am your father.
I know it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but it still bugs me that people don't get that right. - So, the fourth of July is coming up, which means fireworks shows. My favorite story about growing up in AK (vs. growing up in the lower 48) has always been that I thought it was weird that you guys start your fireworks shows so early. You know, like at 9pm and such. In Anchorage, fireworks shows didn't start until like, 2am. Being so far north, during summer, the sun doesn't set until 1am or so. But I never thought that was weird, since that's how I grew up. I always thought you guys were the weird ones.
Anyways, I'm telling you this, because my pal Eve is in AK right now, and she posted sunset pictures on Flickr. Taken around 1am. Very cool, no? - I watched the old summer camp classic Meatballs yesterday. Wow, that movie brings back memories. Well, memories of watching it as a kid. You see, I've never been to summer camp. I realize I'm probably "the weird one" in this respect (too), because from what I understand, everyone's been to summer camp at least once. So, I'm curious as to what I've missed out on. Anyone have any good summer camp memories they'd like to share?
- Speaking of... I knew there was a Meatballs II, but did you know there's both a Meatballs III and Meatballs 4? And, I got a laugh out of this... McDreamy or whatever his name is was the star of Meatballs III! Excuse me... ah-Hahahahah! Waitwaitwait... what's the plot? "The ghost of a dead porn star comes to Earth to help a nerd with his sex life." Dude, I couldn't make that one up if I tried.
And, obviously, there were a lot of unanswered questions from that movie, so they made a Meatballs 4, and it starred... Corey Feldman. Unfortunately, they didn't get the writers from III, and the story centered around some waterskiing competition to settle the score with a rival camp.
Now, I wonder why they didn't keep such an obviously good thing going and make a Meatballs 5... perhaps Ted McGinley wasn't available? - One last thing... Geeky talked about this a few days ago - our culture's new take on finding lost items, like wallets and purses. Apparently, it's no longer unethical to snag the cash before you return the lost item...? You know, a "finder's fee" of sorts. To this, I say "Bunk!" Don't get me wrong - of course it's tempting to take the cash. But it's also dick. That's somebody else's property, and in my mind, I have no right to take it. But hey, maybe that's just me. What do you think? Go on over there and leave your thoughts.
I'll leave you with a quote from my Sayings of the Buddha book:
"With passion gone and hate expelled, let him in boundless measure then quicken a heart of love, every day an dnight zeal suffuse all quarters to infinitude."
And, stealing from a Geico caveman... "Eh, what?"
