Sunday funnies

So, who out there still gets the Sunday paper?

For me, the best thing about the Sunday paper has always been the comics. Well, not so much lately (hello, jobs section), but still, I love me some Sunday comics.

side note: not a Sunday comic, but this is pretty damned funny, so I'm just throwing this in here before I forget to post about it later: This Modern World from a few days ago.

Well, most of them. Some comics, I wonder "Who thinks this is funny?" I mean, sure, not all comics are funny all the time. Even the Far Side and Calvin & Hobbes had their unfunny moments (very few and far between but still there nonetheless). That said, I usually read every strip, whether I think they'll be funny or not. Heck, some comics I read, knowing that they won't be funny, just to prove to myself that "Yup, that wasn't funny in the slightest." Family Circus, hello.

So, I thought it'd be interesting to pick your brains... if you still get the paper, what Sunday comics do you love? Or, hate? Or love to hate?

I don't get the paper, but I do read the comics section whenever I visit my parents. It makes me sad though, because when I look at it now, I only recognize like 2 of the comics!

I agree that Bizarro can be hit or miss, but when it hits, I find it hilarious.

There was one that used to be in my paper, The Dinette Set, that was horribly, horribly unfunny. Gah it was awful.

I like to read For Better or For Worse.

I used to love reading Family Circus, Rose is Rose, Garfield, and Peanuts as a kid, but haven't really laughed at those in years.

If you want a good site to read that critiques comics, I suggest the Comics Curmudgeon!

He often likes to focus on the ones no one bothers to read, like Mary Worth and Mark Trail (seriously, does ANYONE read Mark Trail!?) and point out the ridiculousness of it. Which makes it infinitely more fun to read--I highly recommend it! smile

Ok, I've written a long enough comment now, so I shall stop!

I know a ton of people who LOOOOOOVE Get Fuzzy, but I think it's overrated and it's never really made me laugh.

Foxtrot I will read, because when it's on it's also funny. I was sad it went down to one day a week.
For Better or For Worse, Fox Trot, Calvin and Hobbes and Baby Blues are ALL must reads for me. (Thank you Internet).
The worst comic, the one that I know will, at best, leave me perplexed, at its worst, piss me off, is B.C. Hart, the artist, is always trying to push a religious or political agenda and I find that irritating. Of course, that is only because I disagree with him. Give me a good Opus with the same pushiness and I'll be fine.

As for the strictly un-funny, Ziggy is right up there with Family Circus. Beetle Bailey is pretty awful, too.

I like Zits, Baby Blues, Non Sequiter and The Lockhorns (sometimes).
Who likes Family Circus? Not me! *snicker*

Cow And Boy is about my favorite. The Grizzwells is also usually quite funny.
I don't get the newspaper, so I hardly ever read comics daily, but I like Bloom County, Calvin and Hobbes, Foxtrot, Get Fuzzy, Non Sequitr... When I was younger there was a comic that I don't think is around anymore, called Drabble I think, that wasn't always funny, but one strip has stuck with me for years -- a younger and older brother were just standing doing nothing in the first panel, the second panel shows the older brother smacking his head and wincing as if in pain, the younger brother asks what is wrong, and the older brother explains that he just had an embarrasment flashback. And that happens to me all the time! Just out of nowhere I'll remember something like back in high school that just makes me cringe like it just happened...
Sorry I am one of those who LOOOOVE Get Fuzzy...esp Rob's t shirts....

I miss Outland and Bloom County....Calvin n Hobbes, and The Far Side and the daily Foxtrot!

I cut my teeth on Garfield, Peanuts and Andy Capp!

I read Sally Forth, Mother Goose n Grim (when I can), Pooch Cafe.

But that is me
I don't get to read the "Sunday Paper" anymore since I live in Lebanon and the "funny" strips in the papers here usually consist of some type of political thing, big surprise lol.

So I have to read the comics online and I have to say that I like "Boy on a Stick and Slither", "Brevity", and "Opus" to name a few.
