I'm probably one of the few people still left in the world that loves rotary phones. Like,
real rotary phones. Yes, I know I'm all old skool, but hey, I love the kitch factor.
So, imagine my surprise and elation when I discovered... The
Port-o-Rotary. That's right, a portable rotary phone that uses current cell phone technology (just insert your SIM card or something easy like that).
I would love love
love to have this thing. I don't think I'd use it every day or anything like that, but I sure would use it often. I mean, what a conversation piece. Like, having to actually
dial a phone number. Having your phone actually
ring instead of beep or play music. Man, that'd be cool. Plus, it's so big, you probably wouldn't have to worry about accidentally leaving it someplace. You'd know if you forgot it. And really, who's gonna steal it?
While I've got you on the line... I found this phone over at
Odd Peak. There's not much to the site, but what they have is pretty cool. Like,
here, they list the 10 coolest cell phones. A perfume phone. A bendable phone. A watch phone. Of course, I went for the rotary, but that other stuff is pretty cool, too.
Make sure to check out the
cool satellite pictures. And the
cool concept cars.

LOL That's awesome! The only downside to rotary phones is that you were never REALLY sure you dialed the right number (got all the numbers all the way around) until someone answered. Man did I dial a lot of wrong numbers as a kid!
Hey though, my mom still has the same rotary phone next to her nightstand after all these years. The rest of the house has modern phones, but I guess this one got left behind.
It looks a lot like this, only slightly different color:

I used to have a phone so old it didn't even have a rotary dial. From back when the operator still routed all calls. The shit was heavy! It got lost in a move. Saddest day ever.

I still have the rotary phone I grew up with - just like the picture in your post, but in white, and the phone number still in tact on the center! I had to seriously jack with the ringer though because even when turned down low it would startle the living crap outta me! It still rings, but a kinder gentler ring... My favorite part is watching people try and use it. How soon we forget.

Oh yeah, and back in the day the phone companies used to provide the phone, so technically the phone's not really mine I guess

Didn't the real old rotarty phones weigh like 20 lbs? Carrying around one of those with cellular technology would be some good exercise. It would also be fun to use in your car to mock other cell phone users.
"I'M ON THE PHONE! BLAH BLAH BLAH! LOOK AT ME, I'M TOO IMPORTANT TO PUT ON MY BLINKER!"
Gotta love random ranting.
