OK, so I haven't worked out or gone to the gym in, oh... quite some time. Over a year since I've gone regularly. I've just been lazy, you know?
So, for the past few months, every time I see my mom, she keeps telling me how thin I've gotten... how small I've gotten... how pale I've gotten. Really? I mean, I guess moms can be prone to being overly critical, but really? Sure, I've lost some weight, but she makes it seem like I'm wasting away (this, coming from a woman who's barely five feet tall, and weighs probably ninety pounds). All I hear from her is "How are you doing? Have you gone to the gym yet?"
I swear, she's worse than my conscience.
Eh, shoot. Maybe I'll head to the gym today. Really, I've been meaning to for a few weeks now. About a month ago, I was at Mission Valley Center (a nearby mall), and I saw Nasser El Sonbaty there, with one of his training partners (presumably - I mean, they were both wide as houses). Now, most don't know who he is... he's a professional bodybuilder who has finished in the top 5 for the Mr. Olympia Contest (bodybuilding's premier event - his best placing was 2nd in 1997). The dude is freaking huge. I mean huge. Anyone who's not even six feet tall, but weighs more than 300 lbs. is pretty damned big, yanno? Anyway, he was nice enough to talk to me for a sec, and of course, he also prodded me to get back into the gym.
So, now... looking at what I've just written... there's a tiny, tiny woman, and a huge bodybuilder, and they agree on one thing - I need to hit the gym. OK, I get it now.
I guess I'll be hitting the gym tonight.

Moms say stuff like that all the time. They get a set image of us in their minds and any deviation from that image sets of the Mom alarm. I just went and peeked at your photos, I'm of the opinion that you look super nice. But, what do YOU think? That's really the key. Uh huh. I think I heard that somewhere. ; )
And then, with the bodybuilder telling you to go to the gym. That response could be 100% based on what you said to him and not anything at all about your appearance. Yup.

I am guessing this is more about you being happy. I have read your blog for quite some time, and even I recognize you seem happier when you are working out. The physical results are kind of a secondary thing. Your mind is what really needs the workouts.

My bag is packed and all day I've been meaning to head to the gym. I keep wanting to finish one more thing...

A few years ago Hubs and I drove halfway across the country to see his mom-whom he hadn't seen in over 5 years. She greets us at the front door and there was no "How are you?" or "It's so good to see you again" or "I've missed you sooooo much". Nope. He gets "My god you've gotten grey"
Kinda makes the 1000 mile trip almost worth it.

He's huge, dude, HUGE!!! *shudder*
Go to the gym and work out if you want, just tell me you don't aspire to look like that bulging freak.

LOL I'm just wondering what being pale has to do with not going to the gym. I'd think you'd have MORE color since you might be outside now instead of inside at the gym? Gotta love moms though.

I agree that you're happier when you're at the gym.
(And I hate to break it to you, but it's been about 3 years since you've gone regularly. haha! But who am I to talk? I haven't gone either.)
You are more confident and just generally seem more at peace when you're working out a lot. Plus, it gives you something to blog about.
