Parallel this!

Remember a few weeks ago when I wrote about life's little victories? You know, those little things that happen to us where we do something good, and you want to tell people about it, but it's so minor that you think nobody'd care. Or, you don't want to feel like a braggart.

Well, to hell with that.

Yesterday, I was looking for a parking spot in front of our building. There was a really really really tight space left, and that was it. Now, with the parallel parking, I ususally do pretty good. Sure, every once in a while, I'll fuck up and then have to do a million-point turn, but for the most part, I'm in on the first shot.

But this space was tight.

I went for it anyway, fully expecting to stop halfway through and abort. And... wouldn't you know it? I got it perfect on the first try. Less than a foot from either bumper, but I was in there. Fuck yeah. I love it when a parallel parking episode goes better than you planned.
Congrats, man. You're right - it's the little things that make life grand. Well, that and chocolate. grin
That is totally something to brag about! I would have hit the other cars and cried.
My biggest fear about parallel parking is not being able to get back out, so I probably would have passed on that spot.
Oh hell yeah. I love the perfect parallel park as much as the perfect pump when I'm getting gas. I bow down to your superior parallel parking abilities!
Most of us so rarely get to use that skill, that when we do, and we nail it, it is just the best feeling.
I would have driven around for another hour looking for a better spot. I like to drive dent-free vehicles, so parallel parking is not my friend. Kudos to you for nailing it on the first try! That takes skill.
I can't parallel park at all, so anyone who can do it is special as far as I'm concerned. Of course, getting the grand-daddy of spots on the first shot makes you god-like in my eyes. smile
funny, i was just thinking about that previous post on the way home, because i just timed it perfectly for the bus this morning and tonight. i hate waiting, and i hate chasing the bus. so to hit it right twice in one day is pretty freaking awesome in my book.
I bet you skipped all the way to your front door. smile
I had to park on the street for a while and had gotten lazy. If the space wasn't big enough for me to just back into in one shot I passed up on it. Well, forward to the day my father is in the car with me and says, "What about there?" I looked and shook my head. "That's not big enough," I said. "Sure it is." We went back and forth on this for a few more seconds till he actually pulled the dad card on me and demanded that I park the car in the spot he'd pointed out. He got out to diirect me and it took a little bit of work but I got the car in. At the time I felt silly for giving in but in hindsight it was great because now I can get into any ol' spot again, no matter how tight. Especially good when you have people in the car and they're all impressed about how awesome your parallel parking skills are. Hey, you said it was about the little things!
