Whether anyone knows it or not, I work in a Mall. Scarey stuff, BELIEVE ME. I just ordered shoes online-is that blasphemous? Am I betraying my own (for platform sandals)? Your thoughts???

You know, with online shopping there are so many less reasons to leave the house. The malls never have anything in stock, anyway. Plus FREE SHIPPING!

Yes you have betrayed your own.Think about it if more people keep buying online then there will be no need to have so many stores, which, may in fact, lead to store closings.
I am in an industry that has been quite effected by online buying and you could do yourself a favor and not make a habit of it. In fact try spreading the word that that customer service is back and it is wanted and the internet wiklll not give that to you all it will do is lose jobs.
peace and NOT make a habit of it.point

Have to disagree there. I went into Barnes and Noble for 3 different books, none of which were available unless they were ordered-either by them or by me on the website. My store has a website, and there are certain products that one can only get in the stores. We had a great back to school and holiday season. My company is one of the only ones that still promotes good customer service. I wonder if we work at the same place??

What, so I should go wait around in lines at malls to get crappy service from some little snot nosed Gen Y'er who has a serious sanctimonious attitude to keep up the economy of the retail industry? Me thinks not.
The online business also is part of our economy. I hardly think all the REAL boutiques have much to worry about. Many women love to try on clothing before they buy. I personally don't buy clothing online, but I don't whine when someone does. Besides perhaps if stores didn't mark up their prices so unjustly they'd not lose business to better serive, better prices and free shipping.
Go on with your bad self Stacy - and get some more shoes!
peace.

I am sorry some of you disagreed with me,well, actually I was more amuzed by it then anything else. All I did was simply reply to the question asked and the question was asked because there was a sense of guilt there and Pornstar Stacey wanted afirmation as to if she did the right thing.I simply gave my answer and opinion to her question. We cannot always expect to hear what we want to hear.
I was suprised to hear that although alot of you do buy online you do go the extra step to visit a store directly first for the merchandise and perhaps thats what I would like to see more people do before they but online.I understand completely the benefits of buying online merchandise, especially, if the store does not even exist in your area, but, having been effected by the internet in my industry, there are some things that just should be purchased in person.
Case in point: I sell stocks, bonds, etc. I consult, for a fee, what a persons best options may be,short term or long term, depending on the persons objective. Now, stocks, bonds, etc. are available for purchase online through various conclomerated corporations, saving the comsumer the agents fee and any commisions the agent may receive.
Buying online may save these people those fees, however, it does not permit them to consulted,in fact, they acted as thier own agent, educated in the field or not. They are on thier own.
Low and behold September 11th occurs (and many other significant events, but, 9/11 being the most crucial) All those people who purchased online did not know what to do.They attempted to phone the mega corp they purchased online with to only get an answering machine, they were in a panic,so, what did they do? They called local agencies for advice. The same advice and consultation they choose not to pay for by going with us and paying a minimal fee for, but, now that they were stuck with no one to help them with what they bought online, we were now not such a bad option for them.We were there and we answered the phone. But, could we help them ?Could we consult them? yes, we told them to always buy through a local agent , otherwise they are on their own and with that we kindly ended the call to concentrate and consult our existing clients.
Yes, I am bitter about how online buying as effected my industry and I really foresee it effected others to grave dangers.
Please forgive me for coming off with an attitude toward what Pornstar Stacey did. I simply answered her concerns with my opinion,as you all did.
Peace

No no, no bad feelings here! We are in totally different industries. I would definatlt go to someone in person in your industry, as I have no clue how to handle my stocks (although I know my PacSun stock split? Anyone??).

I'd like to make a clarification, too. I love the convenience of online shopping. I like it even better when a store has a pretty close to accurate inventory count or merchandise descriptions on their site so I can do the research or check to see if something is available before I go to all the hassle of going to that store. Example: Powells.com, the website for the mega-huge independent bookstore here in PDX.
I prefer buying stuff online to buying stuff from the chain and/or mall stores, but I prefer buying stuff in person from locally and/or independently owned businesses even more than I like buying stuff online. I'm not shedding any tears for big chains like the Gap if their not hitting their earnings targets for their stockholders, but the mom and pop shops are an endangered species. You usually can't get that type of personable service at a big chain. The employees just aren't emotionally invested enough.

I would love to ahve my own store. One of the first things I say to ANYONE hire/train is that those customers pay our paychecks.

glad there are no hard feelings. It's hard to express things in writing for me without coming off the wrong way to others. My husband even said I came off a bit strong, but, he is fully aware of how the internet has effected my industry (He said I need to chill out) for him, the internet has helped his business to some degree.he is a veteranarian and started a website to help animal owners with basic animal care questions. He now offers products online from various sponsers that pay him a fee to be on his site. But, he never really has to worry about the internet because you have to take your animal to the vet at some time or another.Thankfully I do not have to solely rely on my job for income.I now do it only part time, but, many of my associates do rely on it for income and i have seen them suffer.
The more you build your portfolio the easy things will be to understand. Its an ever changing game and each hour, each minute, brings a whole new set of rules and confines in my industry.Good luck with your stocks !

Brick and mortar or online? I don't think you're a traitor. I buy where I get the best deal, the best quality for my money and the best customer service.
