Justice?

A few days ago, I talked about Louise Ogborn, who was suing McDonald's after being strip searched (and much worse) in a McDonald's back office at the behest of a caller who claimed he was the police. It's a long, complicated story, but if you don't know the particulars, you can read about them here.

Well, the verdict is in. She was awarded $6.1 million. Frankly, that's a bit low for my taste, because of everything she went through. But she seemed to be happy about it.

The odd thing? The Asst. Manager... the one who never tried to verify that the caller was indeed a police officer... the one who played along with every one of the caller's requests... I didn't know this at the time I wrote that last blog post, but it turns out that she was also suing McDonald's for $50 million! Something about compensation for her pain and suffering. Excuse me. She took the call. She started the strip search. She left that poor (vitually naked) girl alone with her sick perv boyfriend. And she never questioned a thing that she was told to do. Hell, she didn't even question when she walked into the room while her perv boyfriend was "examining" the naked girl (when she walked into the room, the perv hurredly threw an apron to the naked girl for her to cover up). And she gets awarded over $1 million for her "trouble." Frankly, I think she hold some blame in this crime... for being so agreeable to a strange voice on the phone, and for consenting to do things that police would never ask someone to do over the phone.

But, no. She gets $1 million.

Is that justice?

Seriously. If I was that girl, I'd sue the Asst. Manager for $1 million.

I think that would be justice. Or, at least closer to it.
Maybe they figured the Asst. Manager is so naïve that she'll never make it in life without a little financial assistance. wink
I watched 20/20 the other night, the day the verdict was released, because they had this case on there. I missed the part about the Asst. Manager was also suing. That is...that's crazy to me. And I can't believe a jury awarded it to her!

But what is even crazier? How many dots they put across the country illustrating how many other cases just like this have occurred. I cannot believe there are that many people in this world that believe a police officer would ask a citizen to do anything like this over the phone. It boggles my poor brain that people fell for this. Boggles!
She should sue the Ass(hole) Manager for a million and ONE dollar...make it cost her.
Omg that is some crazy shit! I like Dick's idea! She should not get a million for being an idiot - NO WAY!
She got a million dollars for pain and suffering?
I guess the whole incident made her realize that she isn't as smart as she thought she was. . .and that realization caused her. . .pain. . .and. . .suffering??? It's a good thing we have the courts to sort these things out, eh?
I know very little about this case but was the girl not smart enough to say no you can't search me and leave her crappy low paying job?

I do think that is pretty shitty!
Glad the real victim got some cash, but that $1 million to the idiot Asst. Manager is bullshit.
Hell, I'd get naked for 6.1 million bucks. How come this sort of thing never happens to me?

Actually, in my case, the caller would probably end up suing ME for pain and suffering. Because I'm just that frightening.
