OK, so we're watching TV, and that Glade commercial where they're all "Heyyyy, did somebody just bake a pie?" comes on. You know, the Glaahhh-DAY commercial. That commercial always cracks me up.
Quick side note: I looked for the vid on YouTube, but either it wasn't there, or I just didn't put together the right search string. But, interestingly, if you search for "glade french," a video entitled
Lesson 2 - Learn To Speak Some Haitian Creole. Seriously. I know!
Anyways, when I hear Glah-DAY, it reminds me of
Kathy, who absolutely
hates when someone says Tar
zhet instead of Target. You know, that big department store that makes people spend wayyyy more than they intend.
And then I mention Jacques Penné (Pen-NAY). You know, instead of J.C. Penney's. That's what we always called it when I was growing up.
Joelle, of course, has never heard of it, and thinks I'm crazy.
So, have you heard of Jacques Penné?
Oh, and Kathy? I always say Tar
zhet. Muaha-hahahahaha!

Too weird! That commercial came on right as I was reading this post.

I ALWAYS say Tarzhet, I just never knew just how to spell it so I could never post it.
I never heard Jaques Penne though. That's great!
Does anyone shop at Needless Markup? My boss does and when I saw a bag from there I said something about it and realized that it is virtually impossible for me to even say Neman Marcus. Seriously, everytime I try to say the name, Needless Markup comes out.

Needless Markup! That's a good one, too. Haven't heard it in a while, tho. Maybe because I never shop there, nor do I ever want to.

Hmm, sorry dude, even though there has always been a J.C. Penney by my house where I grew up, I have never heard it pronounced as Jacques Penne. Sometimes I will say Target, but usually only in jest--the majority of the time I just pronounce it normally.

I say Tarzhet just to piss off Kathy. haha! It's the little things in life...

I have not seen that Glade commercial! I'm dying to see it now, though! I also haven't heard of Jacques Penne. My mom has worked at Penney's for years and years - all my kids' clothes come from there. Yay for employee discounts! I'm going to start calling it that and see if she even "gets" it.

Jacques Penne is new to me. And just for Kathy, I always call it Target, and just Target.

Never heard of the Jacques Penne. Weirdo.
And I call it --arget because the one near my house had a burned out T for ages upon ages. And I just like the way --arget sounds. All piratey. Aaaaaaarget!
C'mon. Everyone likes pirates!

I quite like JCPennys. I've never heard it called Jacques Penne before though. But I shall now start calling it that.

I've heard the Jacques Penne thing before. And as someone that works at Tarzhet, I have to say I'm with Kathy on this one

The thing that popped into my mind was a line from The Kentucky Fried Movie:
"*sniffs* Christ, did a cow shit in here?"

I grew up in the midwest and my mother always called J.C. Penney's, JayCee Pen-YAY (complete with southern drawl!). We also called Pottery Barn the Poverty Barn. My family is known for renaming things, like it is a secret code only we can understand. Uh huh.

I'm more of a Tar-zhay instead of Target kind of gal but I like the Jacques Penne and may attempt to spread it like wildfire.

P.S. Also fun to say? Tar-ghetto.
hehe

My father ALWAYS called it "Jacques Penne" when I was growing up. I'm fascinated where the parody originated.

Well I don't know what commercial are you talking about. From Glade I've seen only bad and very bad commercials. Nothing to memorize so I'd be pleased to see the video if you can find it.
Ahh i don't think it would make much different when we say "target" as Tarzhet. The accent should be clear, the educated people can understand the tue sense just by the sentence. Huh !
