Quite honestly, I would not have known, if it weren't for Google and their fancy celebratory logo today (which I heard about from Lori).
So anyway, I was over at Anne's, and I saw her take on today's "holiday":
"I'm of the belief that singling groups out does not serve to bring them up to the same level, but only further distances them from the majority."
I totally disagree. I think that the majority, if it didn't have to put up with groups singling themselves out, would just ignore them all. It takes an International Women's Day to make (most, a lot of) people aware of women's issues. I'm a perfect example... I didn't even know there was an IWD, much less that it was today. But now, here I am, spreading the word. Spreading awareness. It's the first step to understanding. Sure, we're not gonna solve anything today, but at least the issues are out there to be dealt with, as opposed to like, sweeping them under the rug. [discuss]
So, women, enjoy your day. Revel in your day. You deserve it.
