OK, so the British government, in cooperation with Pakistani officials, thwarted a major terrorist plot. Good for them.
The weird thing, though? They did it without having to spy on their own citizens. Last time I checked, the UK didn't have a domestic spying program. So, how in the world were they ever able to stop any kind of terrorist threat?
Tough investigative work? Patience? Those things could never work, could they?
I mean, our own government wouldn't have a domestic spying agenda unless it was absolutely necessary, would they? I totally believe in our current administration, and from what I understand (well, as FOX news tells me), the domestic spying program was the only thing saving us from future terrorist attacks.
And now, you tell me that you can catch terrorists
without the aid of spying on citizens? That's just strange. Is that really possible? Hm. Maybe we should re-think the domestic spying program? Nah. Better "safe" than sorry, right?
In other news, this article totally changed my views on the "alleged" global climate change that people say is happening right now:
Personally, I don’t know what all the shouting is about. Global warming is great. Granted, maybe it isn’t really happening, and if it is there are strong reasons to doubt that humans have anything to do with it. But if the world is warming, I say “bravo.” People in most parts of the globe should have no objection to a warmer, wetter climate. If the aliens were watching they’d conclude we were making our planet more habitable on purpose. [full article - and this guy ain't kidding]
Hells yeah! I can move back to Alaska, and it'll be tropical! Dude, that'll be sweet. Can't wait 'til that happens.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go watch that new NASCAR movie with Will Farrell. Man, that guy is funny. I only wish that he'd be in more movies. I don't know about you, but I just can't get enough of that guy.

Canadians are convienced they will never be a part of the U.S. Global Warming is actually a right winged conspircy to for Americans in the next Century to move to Canada in a bid to take it over, similar to what we did in the 1800's to take Texas away from Mexico. The warmer climate will mean a lot of Americans will be mirgrating to Canada, since much of Canada will become inhabitable, and much of the U.S. will be under water.

My guess is that the British must have use some type of spying to uncover these plans.
It could not be done by just survelance and interviewing neighbors. New reports seemed to indicate that they did infiltrate the group which should be classified as spying.
No doubt if they are monitoring phone and/or email, they are not going to make the details public if there have been no leaks.
Further, I do not know what the laws about wiretapping in Britan are, but they may not be close to the protection of those rights our Constitution provides.
It is amazing how much freedom Americans take for granted and tend to assume is shared by other free countries. This is often not the case.
In Japan, for example, the government has the right to search your home twice a year without cause or notice and the right to search it a number of additional times with on only notification.
Further, the government has the right to take a citizen into custody and hold them without charges for a period of time, I think it is a month, without the citizen being able to contact leagal representation.
Also, very many convictions in Japan are with confessions, the criminals appearing with black eyes and bruises at the trial.
Not that I condone any violation of the protection of rights provided by the Constitution and Bill of Rights, ..just saying that it may well be worse elsewhere.

ha. i love that guys logic. global warming means more habitable northern regions! we'll just completely ignore the southern regions that become uninhabitable. and this is my favorite line - "Why infinitely adaptable humanity has to pay the price for the evolutionary shortsightedness of other life forms is beyond me." exactly! i mean, it's not like it's our fault that the planet is changing in a way to kill off other species. oh wait...

Watch it, Mikey - don't you know that disagreeing with the American government means you're a traitor who hates America?

"Last time I checked, the UK didn't have a domestic spying program"
You obviously never checked. The police in England can also enter you property at any time, for any reason without a warrant. The civil liberties afforded English residents is somewhere around the privacy that blacks could expect in Los Angeles county circa 1950.

You're absolutely right, blimey. I should have said:
"Last time I checked, the UK didn't have an
illegal domestic spying program."
According to you, "
The police in England can also enter you property at any time, for any reason without a warrant." Well, that's not legal here. Well, it's not supposed to be legal, according to the Bill of Rights.
Listen. I'm not against wiretapping suspected criminals (based on evidence, not skin color or party affiliation). I'm just against the govt. treating every citizen as a suspect.
