When I was younger, I used to quietly snicker when my mom or dad would forget how old they were. I mean, really... not knowing your own age? Old folks are crazy!
Now?
I get it. I totally get it. Yes, sometimes, I forget how old I am. And yanno, it really sucks. It's embarrasing. But it still happens to me.
36? Wait, 37. I'll be 38 this year. Oh shit, I mean, I'm 38 now, and I'll be 39 on my birthday this year. Is that right? Let's see, 2007 - 1968... that's 39. Yeah, for sure, I'll be 39 this coming August. Why can't I remember that? I'm not
that old, am I? Eh, I guess so.
So, go ahead. Make fun of me, you young folks out there. But, be wary - your time will come, too.

Funny how that happens isn't it? I'm 32 and I made the mistake of saying I was 28 a few days ago.

Hmm. . .maybe you're just forgetful by nature.

I always think I'm 30. I've been 30 for the last 3 years in my head.
I'm 28. I think.

I totally get it. I haven't forgotten mine just yet but my PARENTS are starting to forget which must be an indication that I'm next.

A friend and I were walking behind two young girls a few weeks ago and we overheard snippets of their conversation. They were arguing about how old they were. "wait, I was born in 1991 so that makes me 16, right? So you're 15." -- "No, I'm not 15. I'm 16 ..." And so forth for at least another half a minute. I looked at my friend, and she looked at me and we both immediately felt about 80 years old because we both had "these kids today" looks on our faces. I can see me sometimes not remembering how old I am. You get to 30 and you're lucky if you remember your name. But at 16? Come on! That's just silly.

I wrote "1998" on a check recently. Yeah, don't know where
that came from. Pass the Geritol...

What I want to know is, when the hell did 40 get so close? Seems like the last time I looked I was much closer to 21 then 40.

I've been like that for years now.
Does that mean I've been old for years?

I'm still like 20 in my head. I'm *calculates* 36 now, but I'm not really into ages and such. I prefer to know my age in Epochs. I'm not yet 1.

I've never had that feeling, maybe it's because I'm only 36. I mean 37.

I can't say anything...I'm right behind you by 1 year.

What freaks me out is when I look at a patient's armband and see their birth year and realize that I am talking to a real person who was born the same year I graduated from high school.
I'm 42 now--well, I will be in a few days. For years into my thirties I always thought 26 in my head and then had to do the math. Weird.

It's because your age is a number that CHANGES every year, whereas your birth year or birthdate or other numbers you have memorized stay the same. But don't worry -- you're not alone. I'd bet that most of us can't remember our ages, and when we do, we probably try to lie. Well, at least (most of) us chicks do.

38 just rolled around for me. I started forgetting, or stopped keeping track, after 30. I'm sure we'll get gentle reminders of our age from our friends when we turn 40.

I'm trying to tell myself that the actual number doesn't matter as much as how old I
feel. I feel like I'm 24.
But all last year when I was 27, I kept thinking I was 28 and only 2 years away from 30. Now that I'm 28, I keep thinking I'm 26 and still have 4 years to go. WTF?

i know exactly what you mean and it's been that way for me for a few years now. i have to go back and subtract 1969 from what ever the current year is. that being said, i think i'll be 38 next week. but i still feel (and sometimes act) like i'm in my late 20's/early 30's other than my bum ankle.
