The last time I bought gas before today, it cost me $2.79.9 a gallon. Pretty damned high, don't you think? That was probably five days ago or so. At the most, it was a week ago.
So, you can imagine my surprise when I went to get gas today, and I had to pay $3.11.9 a gallon.
Now, the station I was at is notorious for having prices that are a little but still noticeably higher than most other places. So I looked at the prices at the station by our apartment, which usually has about average gas prices. There, it was $3.09.9 a gallon. Not a big difference at all.
I should note now that these aren't "premium" prices. These are the "regular" unleaded (87 octane) prices.
Did I miss something? When did gas prices decide to jump? And how come nobody's making an issue of it? I certainly haven't seen anything in the newspapers...
Don't get me wrong. I'm not shocked that gas is over three dollars a gallon... I'm just shocked that more people aren't pissed.
Let's do this again... how much is gas where you live?

I mentioned the odd silence regarding the increasing gas prices to my dad about three weeks ago. "People get used to it," he said. I don't know who these people are because for damn sure I haven't gotten used to it. Last week when I put gas in the car I paid 2.92. Last night, I checked the price at the gas station where I usually fill up and it's up to 3.02. Crap!

Bought gas here (Kalamazoo, MI) yesterday morning at 2.75. By the time I left work, it was 2.85. I'd love to know why it costs me $30 to fill up my tank. It's a Saturn, it shouldn't cost that much.

Philly is about $2.90/gallon. Makes me glad I'm purely a public transit girl.
I was reading something this morning about President Bush saying he was concerned about the gas prices and saying he'd look into whether or not there was price gouging. Well of course there's price gouging - look at how much fucking oil company profits for last year. Plus, I've read that the destabilization of the Middle East is partly to blame for the gas prices...gee, I wonder who helped that along. Considering Bush's own foreign policy has hurt the situation and the VP is up to his eyebrows in oil profits, I don't think we'll see any federal investigations.
Grrrr.

There isn't enough ethanol to go around, which is what is making the price so high. I've been paying close attention to the news every time they talk about gas prices, until last night. I heard a teaser of "$5 a gallon this summer in Houston? Hear all about it, next!" That nearly caused me to vomit so I turned off the telly. Feh. It's up to about 2.85 around me.

I paid 2.52 last Friday. It's 2.73 this morning here in nw Atlanta. It's more downtown. The real sucky thing is I fill up every other day. My jeep doesn't do the best with mpg and I am putting 115 miles a day on it. Yeah, so I'm over $120 a week in gas.

$3.09, metro D.C. I understand that with the MBTE eating through underground pipelines and the fustercluck of a convergence to ethanol, it's going to be this way for awhile. I just love spending upward of $30 every four days to fill up my little sports car's tank. Can I show my outrage by running over someone?

1) We have an oil man in the White House
2) Big Oil paid a visit to Congress before they adjourned for their two-week break so that everyone (Congress and their local rags) will push this "it's ethanol's fault" non-sense, even though ethanol is produced HERE IN THE STATES and Big Oil is making record profits for yet again another year
3) Big Oil depends on the very attitudes like NinaKaye's up there -- they're going to push that envelope for as long as people "accept it," as long as they're making their record profits.

I filled up last night (Thursday) in Small-Town-Ohio (between Cleveland and Akron), and it cost me freakin' $23.00 for HALF A TANK in my 2003 Cavalier!!! $2.89/gal. WTF?!???!?!? I have NEVER, EVER seen prices this high, and frankly, it's killing me.
It's not like I can really "boycot" paying that, either. Sure, I consolidate my shopping trips and plan an "economical" route, but I live in what is essentially "The Boonies" and if you want to go anywhere, you HAVE to drive. There is no public transportation whatsoever to rely on. Bikes aren't necessarily safe on the roads out here... and there are no sidewalks. And carpooling? Out of the question because everyone goes in a different direction and no one is ever going in mine.
Yeah. I can't wait to read about the oil companies' profits in the next report. Bastards.
