Eight

So, it's 8-8-08.

Being a numbers geek, I like days like this - you know, when just the date makes the day memorable. Like, I know that the first night game ever played at Wrigley field was on 8-8-88 (the game was rained out after a few innings, so the first official night game was the next day, August 9). Dates like this are great mnemonic devices.

Anyway, so the Olympics have started, and... well, I'm just not excited to see them. Yet. Surely, I'll get into it, but for now, I just want the Olympics to start so that all the speculation regarding the upcoming events can end. (but I'm looking forward to synchronized swimming. kinda. have you seen the Brazilians Bia and Branca Feres? hello!)

Day 226 - Big brotherSo let's talk about something else. Like, my new friend. Meet Giant Domo.

Now, Giant Domo needs a name. I want something that references his size (giant), but is still Domo-ized. So far, I'm considering "Mucho Domo" and "Domo Grande," but am definitely open to suggestions. Anyone out there want to take a crack at it?

And let's talk about So You Think You Can Dance. Congratulations on Josh taking home first place. Of the four that were left, I think he was the most deserving to win, although I was surprised that Katee didn't take second (for the record, the order of finish was 1-Josh, 2-Twitch, 3-Katee, 4-Courtney). Hopefully, the fact that a popper/street dancer won the show will encourage more untrained dancers to try out next year. Well, untrained, but good dancers. Hell, maybe it'll encourage Robert Muraine to actually follow through and NOT quit when the choreography gets tough. All in all, though, it was a great season.

Well, not "all" in all. There's something I've been meaning to bitch about since the beginning of the season, but always kept forgetting when it came time to blog - the camera angles/editing. Whoever is in charge of the camera angles and the editing needs to be shot. OK, maybe that's a bit harsh... fired, maybe. At the very least, he needs some lessons in angles and editing because a lot of times (and I mean A LOT), you couldn't get the effect of the dance because the angles were wrong. Or they were cutting between angles too quickly. Or... or... or... gah, that whole part of the production was shoddy. I don't know how many times we'd watch a group dance, and I'd think "Eh, this is OK. I'd probably enjoy it better if I could actually see what the hell was going on, though." Or, am I the only person who had a problem with this?

And another thing... who picks the music for the dances? Not that I mind the music that much, but damn, they sure featured a lot of Celine Dion songs. No, seriously! Like, at least one every show! Celine Dion! Who on the staff has such a hard-on for Celine Dion?

Aside from those two things, the show this season was just incredible.

And, speaking of incredible, what did you think of the Popping contest? Who do you think won? Chbeeb or Muraine?

First off, they're both incredible at what they do. No, not just incredible. Sick. Twisted. Insane. Ridiculous. But, for me, personally... I think Chbeeb won (barely). It's hard to choose, because the styles, while similar, are still very different. I think Chbeeb is a better dancer, but Muraine has the sicker tricks. Long story short - Phillip was more entertaining, while Robert was more... amazing. I hope they both come back next season so we can watch more of them.

If you missed it, or just want to see it again, here you go.

Happy Friday!
I was a bridesmaid on 9-9-99. The unfortunate thing about that was that it was a Thursday. The couple was so committed to that as their anniversary date that they had a very rushed evening wedding in the middle of the week. They were happy with their day, which is all that ultimately matters, but it was hard for out of town guests to get there on time and some people had long drives home so that they could go to work the next morning.
Mondo Domo?
First of all - Happy Belated Birthday. I can't get to your blog while I'm at work (the filters consider it porn. heh) and I kept forgetting to come here when I was home. Since I'm working from home today, and you posted again, here I am. Wee.

Okay, so about SYTYCD - I completely agree with you about those camera angles! It's so frustrating. I've seen a lot of comments about them on the forums on Fox, too, hopefully somebody worthwhile is reading them and they make a change.

I was happy with Josh winning, but was also surprised Katee didn't come in 2nd place. Good for Twitch, though. He probably got more votes just based on his personality.

My DVR didn't tape the finale. Talk about being pissed!!! Thankfully, I turned the TV on to catch the last 15 minutes, so I saw the group dance and the results... but I'm still disappointed that I missed everything else. Thanks for the posting the video to the Popping contest - I'll have to watch it now.

Oh and about the date. A friend of mine is going to a wedding tonight. They're getting married at 8 PM. grin
Did you notice last night the camera actually fell squarely on the stairs at one point, completely losing the shot of the dancers altogether? Idiots!

The choreographers are to blame for the music choices undoubtedly, but the wardrobe people need to get their sh*t together too - I lost count of how many times I got distracted by feathers in mouths, earrings flying off, etc.

Philip was more entertaining to me, I would get tired watching Robert after awhile. I

I'm really glad that Josh won. Will was arguably the best dancer on the show, but Josh will inspire more "real people" and kids without the money for proper dance education. I think they went REALLY overboard stressing the "untrained dancer" thing though (could they say that a few more billion times?), because he and Twitch were both *trained* to some degree. But I get it.

Wow that was a long comment, sorry! LOL
ginomodomo?

and happy belated birthday....
Major Domo? (I was going to say Mondo Domo, but Murphy beat me to it).

I rememember the first Cubs night game. Holy shit, all the controversy over it. The die-hards thought it an absolute sacrilige (sp?) to have lights at Wrigley field. Seriously, that shit made news for MONTHS before and weeks after.

I do remember working on New Years Eve/Day at the hospital on 12/31/2000-1/01/2001. We had to write the date on every patient's info board so at midnight I got to go "oh one, oh one, oh one". Cuz I'm so freaking clever.
Yikes...next time a little warning about the work-appropriateness of links?? Ok, I suppose I should've known.

And I'm going with Muchisimodomo (mu-CHI-simo-domo).
I have to admit that I loved Josh since the beginning and I think he deserved to win. I was SOOOOO happy that he won. And I think that Twitch deserved to be 2nd. I also thought that when Katee danced alone, she was somewhat annoying to watch. But that's just me.

I like Murphy's suggestion of Mondo Domo.
Cute names you got so far- I thought Major Domo was a good name too so I'm glad Manic Witch suggested it.

How bout just plain Gigantor- you know like night at the museum... or my fave "Big Daddy Domo"... hehe, sounds pimpin' to me... :-D
Those swimming ladies... oh holy hell... *schwing!*
