Don’t be silly

I make no secret that I do a lot of silly things. Things that defy logic. Nothing major, but still... Spock wouldn't approve of these things.

For example...

If I'm on vacation... say I'm in Vegas. I'm in my hotel room, getting ready to go out. Before I walk out the door, I make the requisite check of all things needed (this gets done anytime I head out the door, whether I'm at home, work, whatever). Wallet? Check. Phone? Check. Keys?

Wait, what do I need my keys for? I won't be driving. I'm nowhere near home. Why do I need to have my keys? Yeah, I don't know, either, but I'll still take 'em with me. Mostly because, if I don't, I'll be checking my pockets the entire night, thinking "OH SHIT WHERE ARE MY KEYS?!?!?"

Or, this one. I talked to some people about this yesterday, so I know I'm not the only person who does this. OK, you know that Cheap Trick song "The Flame"? Wherever you go, I'll be with you. Whatever you do, I'll be with you... GAH. *hurl* I hate hate hate that song.

That said, it's on my iPod. And it comes up every once in a while. And I make sure to skip it the second it comes on.

The question is... why don't I just delete it? Why bother with leaving it on and skipping it every time? Honestly... I just don't know. I really should delete it, but... I just haven't gotten around to it. I mean, really... do you folks have songs on your [media player] that you leave on there, despite the fact that you don't like the song, and that you make sure to skip that fucker ASAP whenever it comes on? No? OK, then it's just me.

Hey, don't laugh. I'm not the only person who does silly things like that. I know Michele, when she's driving in parking garages, will "duck" when she drives under beams. As if the beam can penetrate the roof of her car, and is gonna smack her in the forehead. (I only remember that she does this because... I do it too)

Oh! One more. I like to tempt fate, but just a little. [warning: huge run-on sentence ahead] You see, I have this kinda "phobia" that, when I'm walking along outside, in like, a parking lot or something, and I walk near a grate, I totally fear accidentally dropping my car keys down the grate, and then having to find someone to open the sewer so I can go down there and look for them. Because, that'd really suck, yanno?

Now, given that I have this "phobia," you'd think that I'd avoid walking near grates. And you'd think that I'd leave my keys in my pocket, to make sure I don't lose my grip on them and drop them. But no. I seriously will have my keys in my hand, and will walk within dropping range, or even over grates that I see.

Get it? Tempting fate. I don't know why I do that, but I do it. Almost sub-consciously.

Got anything really silly that you do that you'd like to confess? Please do.

Because... well, I don't want to be the only dumbass around here.
I'm superstitious. If i'm driving along and I see a black cat up ahead, I will turn the vehicle around and find another route to my destination. This little stunt of mine has caused a great many deal of arguments!
I have so many songs on my mp3 that I totally hate but just can't bring myself to delete. I don't know why either.
I duck in parking garages too. I also try to scoot the van forward if I am on a slippery road while I'm in my seat. (I don't know how to describe that, but I know others do it too).
I am so paranoid about dropping my keys in the sewer that I either make a very conscious point of putting them in my purse, ("I am now putting my keys in my purse"). or holding them with a death grip while walking 10 feet away from the grate.
My grandmother would only exit a house the same way she entered. It was always such a pain in the ass because when it got dark, my parents front steps are really hard to navigate, but she would never go out the well lit garage.
1. I have many songs on my 'Pod that I cannot stand but I refuse to delete them. Maybe one day I'll need it. What for? I don't know...but I might.

2. My light switches in my foyer have to properly reflect the current status of the lights. If they are up the light has to be on or I'll go to the other switches and arrange them until they do. But only with the switch in the foyer. That's the only one...

3. I will also duck in a parking garage when driving under the signs.

4. When playing video games, I cannot just sit straight up and down and play the game. If I'm running around a corner, I lean. If I'm jumping over something, I will make the controller look like it's jumping over something. By the time I'm done playing a game I'm exhausted.

I'm sure I have other things that I'm just not thinking about at the moment. I'm 100% silly and weird...it's quite possible that everything I do is silly and weird...
One cool think about the new version on iTunes is it now counts the songs when you skip them. So now you can sort by most skipped and maybe delete the songs you skip all the time. Or of course you can just leave them so you have something to skip if you like that sort of thing.
Okay. When I was eight years old, my parents bought me a really nice watch. You know, a Timex, that you had to actually wind and everything. And I forgot I had it on and wore it in the bathtub on about the third day and ruined it. So now, TWENTY FIVE years later, I still glance down at my wrist every time I get in a pool or bathtub to make sure I don't have a watch on. Never mind the fact that most watches now are waterproof. And never mind the fact that I don't even OWN a watch, and haven't worn one in about a decade.
I have the exact same phobia about keys and grates, too, but add in that I get the same fear when I walk over the crack on an elevator where the door is. It's like my keys are going to get sucked into that tiny space between the elevator and the floor or something. I absolutely can't explain it.

There are so many songs on my iPod that I hate, and I would be totally embarassed if anyone knew they were there. And yet I don't delete them.

And I hate, hate, HATE being tapped on the shoulder or arm. And do you know how many students do that on a daily basis? I feel awful brushing their hands away from me, but I do every time, because I can't stand it. It makes me cringe just to write about it.
I don't keep songs I hate in iTunes. However, I do have a bunch of songs that I'm not all that familiar with or am not crazy about, unchecked so they don't get loaded on the iPod. I went the 'rip entire music collection' route instead of being smart and only ripping the music i listen to on a pretty consistent basis. as a result i have to skip through a lot of stuff that i always say i'll get around to really listening at some point. of course, when this is going to happen i don't know since my main source of music is my iPod and those songs are nowhere to be found there. insanity meet illogical. you'll get along just fine i think. grin
I do the iPod thing - I have songs I'll skip that I can't stand too.
