OK, is/did anybody else watch this Katie Couric special on Jennifer Wilbanks, the "Runaway Bride"? My gawd, this woman is just pissing me off. Fine, call me unsympathetic, but I don't buy her bullshit excuses/explanations. She just doesn't seem very... "sincere." And I think this woman should get jail time (dunno how much she's up for, if any. anybody out there know?). I mean, how much heartache did she cause? How much did it cost to look for her? What about all the people who worked extra shifts to look for her, or volunteered to look for her, or donated money to help look for her? Do you think they hope she gets off without jail time?
OK, maybe not. But I'm sticking with my viewpoint - she should be punished. Certainly, she should not be allowed to profit... and there's a movement to insure that this doesn't happen -
Sue Jennifer.
On an unrelated note, my new favorite commercial? The Toyota commercial where two kids are telling the old operator dude which cars to crash (in a crash test).
"Do the red one, Bob."
"Now do the gold one."
"It's called 'Desert Sand Mica'."
"Whatever, just crash it."
Cracks me up every time.

That commercial cracks me up every time. I also love when they tell him to use his own car.

That is cute - there's another one where the kids are test driving the minivans and go pick up all their friends, order chicken nuggets at the drive through, fold down one of the seats so the dog can get in, etc. It's pretty cute too.
You'd think I'd be over cute kids by now, being up to my armpits in them every damned day. But nope. I still smile at cute kid commercials.

demands "Let's go pick up my friends."
it's so damned cute, it hurts.

A guy I know has set up
http://www.suejennifer.com -- he is trying to get people to file a class-action lawsuit against Jennifer Wilbanks, saying she doesn't deserve to profit off her little misadventure.

Leave the woman alone. Its obvious she has some mental problems. The characteristics she has displayed is consistent with someone who is a manic depessive. Making irrational thoughts, bouts of mania. Extreme highs and lows. Just pray for her and wish her the best.

I love that commercial, too.
Re: Jennifer, yeah, she's reallly annoying me. I didn't see the interview, but saw on CNN that her mom "handles her banking"? That's ridiculous even for someone who is a little bit nuts.

I wish I could run away, instead I have to settle with plenty of meds and alcohol!
All time fav commercial - the one where the guy lets his date into the car and as he's walking around the car, she rips one, not knowing that there is another couple in the back seat that hears it all - oh shit that one was good! I think it was for a phone cell phone or beeper company?

I don't know about jail time, but I definitely think she ought to have to repay ALL the money spent looking for here and then a hefty fine on top of it.

ha -- i'm always correcting people when they call my car beige -- it's Sandrift Metallic.
on the runaway bride, if she really truly was suicidal and all that, then you can't punish her. I'm sure she didn't expect it to turn into what it did. irregardless, her eyes bug me out...they're permanently wide open.

Soapbox..I think it was for Cingular. That one cracked my shit up. I am loving the one for For Eyes (I dont know if its local or not though). Balki is pimping overpriced glasses. He spits water in some guys face to show that his glasses are great in stormy weather. And in another he tells a chick that her glasses make her sexy. Then he leans over the counter and demands that she spank him. Love it.
I got "chicago" Thanks Mikey.

Funny, because I blame the media 95% in this case and I relate to that chick in one million ways. She could be me.
ps. My car is Desert Sand Mica.

ok Laura, so you relate to her. there's nothing wrong with that.
did she have anxiety? cold feet? stress getting to her? i'm sure.
but. people go through this kind of stuff
every single day. people are planning weddings every freakin day. now, is she the first "runaway bride?" certainly, she's not the last bride to get cold feet, but she's definitely the first to cause a nationwide manhunt.
you know, i see people in the news that i "relate" to all the time. take the Columbine killers for example. i know that every nerd in the world could relate to them and how they felt (being picked on, etc.). but would i ever go on a shooting spree? hell, no.
there's just a huge huge
huge difference between "relating" to something and actually
doing some fucked up shit.

I watched but I watched in awe just looking at her. I feel bad for the lady but I think she knew what she was doing, I hope she doesn't profit from this even if she really is sick.

The only "punishible" act Jennifer commited was making a false police report.
She did this AFTER all the searching was done...and, in fact, the call would stop the searching.
It isn't illegal to leave town and hide out.
Yes, it does cause pain to the folks who think something may have happened to you and expense to any searchers who may be out and about...but it is not illegal and no jail time would be i nvolved.
She received probation for the false police report.

OK, so lying to the police was her only "punishable" act. by the law, anyways. fine. it doesn't make her any less of a fucking twit.
and that only makes me want to support
Sue Jennifer even more.

PRAY for her? I'm sorry, I know the sentiment and intent is nice and that's sweet.
But all the praying in the world can't make what she did ok with me. She's obviously got psychological problems and while I
absolutely sympathize with people who are depressed, this is just paramount bullshit. She may be mental, but she's acting spoiled.
A 600-guest, $50,000 wedding? A decent upper middle class upbringing? A loving family and doting fiance? BOO HOO, lady! Everyone has problems, all brides get cold feet, all brides would want to freak out and run away when planning an event of that size! Grow some stones and tell your born-again boyfriend that it must not be God's plan that you get married, so you have to call it off or you want to wait or whatever it is.
I was fine with her jumping on a bus. I was. I can logically see where someone might flip out and do that, especially under the pressure of a $50k wedding to the Jesus the Re-Virginizer. But when she stayed away as long as she did without calling, even though she admitted she
knew what she was doing was hurting people. She
knew (whether or not she knew it was a gigantic nationwide story, she knew what she was doing was hurtful to those she loved) and admitted it! And then the lies? It's just ridiculous.
I think she deserves jail time equivalent to the amount of time and money that people spent looking for her.

I have a tie for my fave commercials right now. I like the one with the little girls doing the test-drive in the minivan ("My bloodsugar's low! D'you have any money?"), and then there's a new Starbuck's commercial with a guy in it that has a constant cheering section wherever he goes, and that dah-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-na, HEY! song is playing as his theme song, and he has a mascot that looks
just like him! (It took me a couple of times of seeing it to realize that the mascot was a big-headed version of him...and then I was laughing harder than ever.) The mascot does the worm at one point, and I almost bust a gut every time I see it! I love Starbucks commercials. Except for the one with that Bucle guy in it...he creeps me out.

Praying won't do one bit of good if she isn't getting professional help. Pray to God but row for the shore. Yes, Jennifer Wilbanks' excuses are lame, she basically ran away and what she did was very wrong but we all fuck up and have regrets.
Unfortunately she really crossed the line, what happens if someone in her town disappears in the future, how seriously will they take it? I don't really know, they would have doubts at first. And she is making money off all of this, so that really pisses me off.
She basically did something very wrong and is getting rewarded with interviews, next thing we know is that she'll be having a book deal and the tv movie of the week. I heard on the news that NBC paid her $500,000 for the Katie Couric interview. It's disgusting.
If anyone doesn't like what I've written then forget it, I don't have to agree with your opinions.
