“Canadian” is the new black

Have you heard about this? I read about it at Shakesville, and I guess it's true - Canadian is the new black.

But not in a good way.

You see, some crafty racists have taken to calling black folks "Canadians." Apparently, they don't want to have to endure the stigma of being labeled racists, so they picked a much "nicer" word than nigger. So they call them Canadians. [story]

And that's supposed to appease the rest of us non-racists. Or fool us. Or something.

Listen, you fucking assholes. Calling blacks "Canadians" doesn't make you any less of a fucking racist. Calling blacks "Canadians" isn't fooling us. Using "Canadian" as an insult is, well, an insult to all Canadians. Sure, a lot of people joke about Canada, but seriously, they're probably our closest ally. Why the fuck do you want to piss them off?

I guess that when you're a flaming racist, you're just a fucking idiot anyway...

Fucking douchebag racists.
I've never heard of that! Boy, those racists sure are clever! *sigh*
My sister is a waitress and says that this term is used a lot by staff in restaurants.
As a Michigander, quite close to Canada, I can say that around here when someone refers to a Canadian, they probably don't have any hidden meaning and it's not an insult but rather a statement of fact (or they're ordering a beer - Molson Canadian).

Oh, and on a similar note I once walked off the job in the middle of the lunch rush at a restaurant when the owners told me not to seat too many blacks in one waitperson's section. I won't eat at that establishment to this day, and I tell others about it all the time.

Use Canadian, the N word, Martian, whatever term they want, they're still racist. Sickening.
I have never heard this before (now in Texas--previously from Georgia). I guess they don't have a codeword for ignorant assholes, do they?
My sister is also a waitress/manager at a restaurant, and I've definitely heard the term, always in the restaurant, from her and from her staff. Mostly I want to punch her in the face, but I settle for being disgusted with her and being clear about my disgust.
Oh, I just wanted to add that this is NOT a term my sister uses herself.
In reference to the restaurant usage - Canadians are also noted for being relatively shitty tippers, but up here, our waitstaff gets paid close to minimum wage AS WELL AS TIPS, and it doesn't enter our minds that others would be paid much less - hence in many (northern) restaurants, I get crappier service if I SAY I came from canada, and thus am canadian - hence, a waiter would not want many (literal) canadians sitting in their section, and why it may have gone unnoticed for a little while. American waitstaff friends admit they hate it when they get (literal) canadian customers in their section.
The stupid knows no end. When I moved to Georgia, someone told me I couldn't register as a Democrat for our primaries because Democrat is code for black.

Give me the Democratic ballot, please!
Bwahah! Right on! I'm so glad someone blogged about this - I really thought are they JOKING when I heard about this. Jesuschristalmighty.
First I've heard of it.

As a Canadian, I have a few comments.

First, overall, no, Canada and Canadians won't be pissed off by this, not really. Amused, more like. Not that I find bigots amusing, but rather that they want to couch their bigotry in the relatively harmless label Canadian.

Second, I've heard that Canadians are shitty tippers before as well, which I don't get. I'm between 15 and 20 percent, with very good service always getting at least 20.

Last, despite any stances our respective countries take in regards to current wars or soft lumber disputes, yes Canada is the closest ally of the US, and by far your largest trading partner. But you don't worry about pissing us off, because we're too goddamned polite and nice for our own good.
I'm originally from the Midwest and I can tell you that term is MUCH more prevalent in Chicago than it is here in the South.

But then again, here in the South people just use the "n" word. Disgusting.
I'd never heard of this new "insult".
On another note, I'm military and although Canada is geographically our "closest ally" they are not considered by those in the US military to be our greatest ally. No big deal; just wanted to mention it.
