I've often remarked about how the very first album I ever owned was an old Ktel album (Ktel was the "Now that's what I call music!" of the 70's). I didn't remember the name of it, but I remember some songs from it. "Rich Girl" by Hall and Oates, which I remember because *gasp* they actually said "bitch" in the song! I always had to make sure my mom never heard that. I remember that Climax Blues Band song "Couldn't get it right." I still love that 10cc song "Things we do for love." And, most of all, I remember that I hated, hated that song "Torn between two lovers." I remember thinking "What the hell is this garbage? This whole album is rocking (remember, I was a kid, so really, I didn't know what "rocking" was), and they throw this crap on here? Ugh!" And I still hate the fact that now, just thinking about that song, it's starting to stick in my head. Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool. Lovin' both of you is breaking all the rules. Gah.
Anyway, so Joelle starts messaging me, linking some old 70's and 80's commercials. Freshen Up Gum. The gum that squirts! Snik Snaks (the "original" Kit Kat). And, she linked a commercial for an old Ktel album. Stars. All original hits. My god, this is the one. This was the very first album I ever owned. This is awesome!
So, sit back and have a laugh at the music that I thought was the greatest music ever. Back when I was a kid.
Hey. "Couldn't Get it Right" is the best freakin' song. Ever. EVAR!
(I love that song. On my list of all-time faves.)
Especially since it was a very white British boy singing it.

My first albums were K-Tel as well. Ahhhh. Well, OK fine. Technically my first albums were Sesame Street related. BUT the K-Tels were my first "adult" albums. I think my first one had that "I've Never Been To Me" song on it.
Insert "Loving both of you" for "something something something."
Sorry, Angela. It's not you, it's me. OCD and Anal Retentive Disorders.

That is AWESOME!! My first album was a KTel album as well!! It was called "Music Machine" and it had this crazy robot on the front of it. I remember so vividly moving the needle on the record player up to "song 8" so we could hear Play that Funky Music over and over and over. So...guess what? About three years ago, I FOUND THAT RECORD on eBay and bought it for a buck. My husband Paul actually had DJ turntables set up in our basement, so we threw that scratchy old record on. God, it brought back memories!! I feel like I own a piece of my childhood now.
K-Tel was an awesome, AWESOME idea. I wish they still had K-Tel records. Would anyone have known about "Drugs In My Pocket" or "Turning Japanese" without K-Tel? I don't think so.
