OK, just a few thoughts that are currently swimming around in my head...
- Election season is over (for the most part, barring challenges and recounts). Do you know what that means? No more fucking political ads. And thank heavens for that. Now, TV stations will be able to resume over-playing their "normal" ads - the ones for all the different perscription drugs.
- Yesterday, I drove by a brush fire on the way to work. It was no biggie - put out and cleaned up within a few hours. But I managed to snap this picture with my camera phone. The only reason I mention it is because I took that picture with my piddly little 2 year old camera phone, and it actually turned out pretty cool anyway.
- I think that qualifies as one of those "life's little victories." That's why I'm bragging about it. It's all about appreciating the unexpected good things in life, yanno?
- Oh! Speaking of unexpected good things... remember how I said that I lost all my AVN pictures for this year, due to a computer crash (and subsequent re-formatting of my hard drive)? And that I bought a data recovery program to hopefully get those pics back, but it didn't work? Well, last night it dawned on me to use the recovery program on the camera's memory card - and I was able to recover about half of my pictures. Sure, I didn't get 'em all, but I got some, and that's better than nothing. I'll be putting them up soon.
One more thing... a survey-ish question that I've been meaning to post. One of those things "just out of curiousity."
What's the most amount of cash you've ever held in your hand/on your person? It doesn't have to be your own cash.
Me? The most I've ever held in my hand is $3,300. I was in Vegas, and I went to the craps table with $100 bucks. 8 hours later, I was up $3,200. It was a fluke table - I had never seen a table so hot for so long. I couldn't make a wrong bet, it was so good. Actually, at one point, I was up over $4k, but lost some before calling it a night.
8 hours of gambling? Yeah, insane, I know. But gamblers will know and understand... you do
not leave a hot table, regardless of the game. It's just like a winning streak in sports - you don't fuck with the winning streak.
Anyways. So, what's the most cash you've ever held in your hand?

$6000, or so. i think it was a little more than that. when we first got married, mr. geeky transfered some of his money to my bank and forgot to ask for a cashiers check, so they just handed us $6k in bills. did you know they have a special room at the bank where you can go to count large amounts of money like that? it was all very secretive, and we both almost had a heart attack carrying that much cash out of the bank. luckily we carried right to my bank without any problems. i'll never do that again!

I got all excited when I had $500 on me. Of course a big bankroll for me now is about $1.87.
I love that pic! The way you can see the firetruck in the mirror is just awesome!

I couldn't say how much cash I ever held in my hand - a lot, I'm guessing since I was a bank teller.
Glad you found some of your AVN photos and yeah - can't wait to get back to the prescription drug commercials! Bring on the 30 second product disclaimers, baby!

It was somewhere around 12K. I worked for MDA and a sponsor had just done a fundraiser and stupid him brought in cash instead of a check. Well there were checks too but he should have never brought that much cash in to the office. I couldn't get to the bank fast enough!

At my "old job", I once had to carry about $350,000 to a not so good part of town. Talk about nervous.
Ok, I completely made that up, I just wanted a good story to tell instead of saying I don't know, probably only a few hundred dollars.

Probably a couple thousand, but I did write a check for $95,000.00 once for a construction project at my old job. All I could think was, "Ack! How am I going to get all those words to fit on the line?"

probably in the ballpark of about $55K and it made me very very nervous!

$50. I'm not trusted with money...
Oh I'm kidding. I really don't know. When we sold our house we had a fairly big check that we were both impressed with...but we never turned it into cold hard cash. And we only got to keep it a few hours since we were also buying a house. But for those hours...we were kings! Well...ok...not really kings...but you know...I could have upgraded to a combo at Wendy's.

I used to make daily cash deposits of $15,000 - $20,000 for my old job, although I do remember some weekends where we would make $40 - $50K a night in case. I would deposit on Monday what we had done in business over the weekend. So, probably in the area of $120,000 - $130,000. The trick to not getting killed is to not look like you have that much cash on you (and to pack the deposit bags so it wouldn't make your bag bulge oddly - it just looked like I had books in there.)
Yeah, we could have hired an armored car service, but the ones in that area absolutley sucked, and the one that didn't we couldn't use for political reasons. So, hey, let's make Alison do it! (I really didn't mind, it gave me a chance to get out of the office for awhile each day aside from lunch.)

haha, what's that "in case" doing up there? I didn't mean that.

A total of $30,000. Around $25,000 in cash and the rest in checks/money orders. That was for work. Personally I'd say around $7000.

In colones (El Salvador) about $12,000 which at the time was about $1300 US. The most I've held here is about $2000 but not for very long. Pretty much just took it out of the bank and passed it along. Not as much fun as your Vegas moment.

Hey Mikey!
This is totally unrelated to anything you've posted, but it's related to you, I guess. I don't know if you listen to podcasts, but I wanted to recommend one to you if you do. It's called blarm (blarmcast.com), and it seems really up your alley because the chick who does it reminds me of you with your often candid discussion of poo and porn and such. She's funny and frank and I promise I'm not being put up to this... I just thought about how much the show seemed like something you'd like. Sorry to go all off-topic in your comments. Cheers!

I used to be the manager for the main branch of a bank in Chicago (back when I also was very, very stressed out, lol) and the week before the Taste of Chicago I put a money order in for close to $500,000. When Brinks came to deliver it in two huge money bags, I was the one who signed off on it and delivered it to the vault. All I remember thinking was that it was really frickin' heavy.

8kish? my brother is a landlord, and his barrio apartment building all pays in cash.
Also, when I was a manager for the mariners, I handled tons of cash every single night. don't recall how much anymore, but it was always several thousand.

I think 4g's is the record for me. I wish it was from the tables, but I only did it to pull money from one bank account so I could walk across the street to deposit it into another.

I love that unexpected picture of the fire. The best part is looking in your sideview mirror and seeing the trucks coming. I LOVE that!
As for cash, I used to be a bank teller. My favorite part was when the money was delivered from brinks. We'd have to verify the whole shipment sent in bricks of cash shrink wrapped with plastic.
I think the most I counted was about $200,000 cash. I used to put in piles according to things I have some day: a car, a house, a college degree, a retirement fund, a year's salary ... etc. Fun times!
